The most common ecommerce welcome sequence

Plus, we just hit 300 emails 🙌

Hey! David there from Send Good Emails,

It’s been a minute since my last email, but to the surprise of no one, managing email for an 8-figure SaaS company and raising a 3-year-old toddler keeps your days… interesting.

Apologies for the radio silence. I’ve got some exciting updates and insights that I think you’ll love.

Let’s get to it!

Project Updates:

Database Milestone

We’ve hit 300 mapped emails from 70 different companies. It might sound like a small thing, but for a side project like this, it’s a big deal.

Latest Additions

These are some of the companies that were added to our lineup:

  • Perplexity (SaaS) (Spoiler: This is a very good welcome sequence—it got me all excited.)

  • Anthropic (SaaS)

  • Notion (SaaS)

  • The Perfect Loaf (Media)

  • Outreach (SaaS)

  • RightMessage (SaaS)

You might notice a bit of a personal interest showing there… 😅 I’ll try to mix it up a bit more in the future.

Quick reminder: You can always reach out if there’s a specific company you’d like me to explore!

New Category: Launch Emails

I’ve also started adding launch emails to the mix. Even though these aren’t typically part of a sequence, they pack a punch because companies tend to put their “meat and potatoes” in them.

Make sure to check out the launch email examples from Notion and Anthropic—they’re pretty solid.

Insights:

With the database reaching a reasonable size, I’ve begun experimenting with the numbers to uncover some patterns and trends. Here’s the first one:

The Most Common eCommerce Welcome Email Sequence Structure

What I found:

  • Average number of emails sent: 3

  • Timeframe: Over 4 days

  • Discount or Offer Present: 83% of brands do it

The most common welcome offers?

  • 10% Off Deal: Nearly 38% of brands use this to entice new customers

  • 15% and 20% Discounts: Each offered by around 14% of brands do one of these

  • Free Gift

If you’re looking to optimize your welcome sequences, these stats could give you a great starting point.

Interesting? Want to see more of these? Reply and let me know!

Until Next Time…

That’s it for this round! Thanks for reading, and I hope you found some value in these updates and insights.

Cheers,
David ✌️
